Time is running out for walkers to sign up to take part in the Bath Rugby Walk taking place this Saturday 7th March, in aid of Dorothy House and the Bath Rugby Foundation.
The walk will begin later than initially planned, following the cancellation of the Ireland v Italy Six Nations match. Registration will open at 11.30am with the walk starting at 1pm.
Joining the walkers who have already signed up to take part are the Mashy’s Marchers team who walk in memory of Warminster School teacher, Stuart Morgan-Nash.
Nikki Morgan-Nash, from Warminster, wife of Stuart Morgan-Nash who was cared for by local hospice Dorothy House before he died said: “Stuart was a big rugby fan and introduced all three of our children to Bath Rugby and events like The Clash.
“He loved the outdoors and being in the countryside so the Bath Rugby Walk is a perfect way to remember such a special man to so many of us.
“We are all looking forward to wearing our flat caps and completing the Walk again on 7th March to raise funds for Dorothy House and the Bath Rugby Foundation.
“Our Mashy’s Marchers Team had forty-five walkers last year and we raised £4,760 on an amazingly memorable and sunny day.
“This year we are hoping for over twenty-five walkers to join our team including many of Stuart’s fellow teaching colleagues and past pupils as well as family and friends.”
Emily Knight, Event Fundraiser, Dorothy House Hospice Care said: “We’re really excited about this year’s event and are so proud of the Mashy’s Marchers for getting such a large team together for the big day.
“Last year’s Bath Rugby Walk was a great success with almost 540 people taking part and we’re hoping even more walkers will sign up this year.
“The funds raised by the Walk for Dorothy House will help us provide patients and their families with essential specialist palliative and end of life care.”
This year’s walk will once again follow the Kennet and Avon canal path route between the two charities, starting at Dorothy House’s Winsley base at 1pm and ending at the home of Bath Rugby in Bath city centre.
Once at the Rec, walkers will be able to enjoy a well-earned drink and a pie while watching England take on Wales in the Six Nations at 4:45pm.
Men and women aged 12 years and over are invited to take part and help raise vital funds for the Bath Rugby Foundation and Dorothy House Hospice Care.
Lynne Fernquest, CEO of Bath Rugby Foundation, said: “We’re all really looking forward to seeing so many walkers take to the canal path on Saturday.
“The Bath Rugby Walk is always a wonderful occasion, with so many people turning out to help raise vital funds for two local charities.”
If your team is between 12 and 20 people and you’d enjoy a private space to watch the Six Nations you can even reserve a box at Bath Rec.
Entry is £25 for men and women aged 18 and over. For children aged 12-17 and students with an NUS Card the cost is £17.50.
