Councillors in Peasedown St John have said that action is needed to clean up a popular car park in the village, with repairs and maintenance at the site going uncompleted.
Cllrs Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan (Independent) are calling on B&NES Council to carry out urgent repair work in Greenlands Road Car Park so users can park more safely.
Cllr Karen Walker said: “Cllr Bevan and I have repeatedly called on the council not only to clean up the car park, but also to respond to a growing list of repair and maintenance jobs that haven’t been attended to.
“We’ve had some success recently with persuading the council to replace the old and dirty lamps on lampposts, but other than that we are waiting for broken fencing to be replaced, hedges to be cut, weeds to be pulled and litter to be picked up.”
Greenlands Road Car Park, located in the centre of the village behind Bath Road, is popular with shoppers, parents taking their children to and from school, and those who need to use local services such as the dentist and pharmacy.
Cllr Sarah Bevan added: “The council has been aware of these incomplete repair jobs for months, so now is the time for action.
“The spikes protruding from the fence not only put pedestrians at risk of injury, but discourages parking in much need spaces, as drivers fear the ruination of their paintwork.’
“What kind of a message does this send to visitors to our community who travel here to use our amenities and services?!”
Cllrs Walker and Bevan have been given several assurances from the council that repair work will be carried out, but on each occasion that date for completion hasn’t been met.
