Richard Buckley from the Acorn Vegetarian Kitchen in Bath has been nominated in Olive Magazine’s Chef Awards 2018 shortlist, as a pioneer for vegetarian cooking.
Richard Buckley has been nominated by the public in the ‘Veggie pioneer’ award category.
For the past 15 years, olive magazine has championed the chefs that are making a difference to the way we eat in the UK.
This year, in its inaugural awards, instead of focusing on ‘celebrity chefs’ and ‘TV cooks’, it is recognising the unheralded chefs who have been quietly excelling in the background.
Olive asked the public to nominate the chefs who they thought deserved to be on the shortlist across seven categories: Sustainable star, Best street-food chef, Veggie pioneer, Best pastry chef or baker, Community champion, Small but mighty and the Dark Horse Wine award, celebrating the most innovative chefs in the country.
The 31 shortlisted nominees have now been announced, featuring some of the most creative, inventive and up-and-coming chefs from across the UK.
Judging will now commence with a panel of expert judges including, olive magazine editor Laura Rowe, Bristol-based journalist and restaurant inspector Mark Taylor, award-winning food author and Guardian food columnist Felicity Cloake; and social media foodie influencer Clerkenwell Boy.
Laura Rowe, olive magazine editor, said: “We’re facing one of the biggest chef shortages we have seen in recent years so now it’s more important than ever to celebrate those making a positive impact on our food, the communities we live in, and the planet.”
The winners of the olive 2018 Chef Awards will be announced in September.
