The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity are on the lookout for runners to take part in the Bath Half Marathon and raise vital funds to keep the crucial life-saving helicopter flying.
As part of TeamGWAAC you will receive support from our fundraisers, while safe in the knowledge that the money you raise will enable the team of highly skilled doctors and paramedics to continue to provide life saving care at the scene of an accident.
One of the Critical Care Paramedics James Yates will be running the 13 miles himself, and wants to be joined by as many other supporters as possible.
James, who lives in Bradford on Avon, said: “Working as part of the team on the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity I know how vital it is that we get the specialist care to patients quickly.
“I am running the Bath Half to support the charity, and I would love as many people as possible to join me as part of Team GWAAC.
“Together we can save lives.”
The Bath Half Marathon takes place on Sunday March 13th 2016.
GWAAC is the local air ambulance for Bath and North East Somerset. So far this year they have attended 68 jobs in the county.
At a time when time is of the essence it takes the helicopter just 12 minutes to fly to Bath from their base at Filton, Bristol, a journey which by road would take a lot longer.
The charity help provide life saving care at the scene of an incident, and then transport the patient to the hospital best equipped to deal with their needs.
Often this will be Southmead Hospital in Bristol, which is the major trauma centre for the region, or the BRI, which holds the cardiac unit and the children’s hospital.
Community fundraising coordinator to Bath Ella Mayne said: “We are looking for people to lace up their trainers and run the Bath Half Marathon for us.
“The vital service we provide could not exist without people supporting us, as we receive no day to day funding from the Government or National Lottery.
“It costs £2.3 million a year to keep the helicopter flying – so the money you raise through sponsorship really does save lives.”
