Hotel search website trivago.co.uk have revealed the results of their inaugural Top Hotel Awards, using aggregated online user ratings in order to recognise the best-rated hotels, both regionally and nationally.
The Somerville in Torquay is the top-rated hotel in the South West, followed closely by The Bath House in Bath and Briarfields, also in Torquay.
Bath has the monopoly on top-rated hotels in the South West, with seven of the top 20 located here, five of which are in the top 10.
Prices at the seven hotels in Bath range from £120 to £163 per night.
Denise Bartlett, trivago’s UK Public Relations, said: “With its hard working staff and attention to detail, it is easy to see why The Somerville is our top-rated hotel in the South West.
“The region is represented by a total of ten hotels in the UK top 50, meaning the South West boasts an unusually high standard of accommodation.
“In addition to this, there are only a few points difference in the rating of all of the top 20 hotels, meaning a high benchmark must be met to reach the best-rated hotels. All accommodation providers in the South West should be proud of their achievements.
“The trivago Top Hotel Awards aim to judge all accommodation fairly, whether they are a boutique B&B in Bath or a coastal retreat on the English Riveria.
“It is really encouraging to see such a range of accommodation, both in terms of price and geographical location, in our top 20.”
The seven hotels out of the top twenty recognised by trivago in Bath are: The Bath House (2nd), Brindleys (4th), Chestnuts House (5th), Grays (7th), Apsley House (8th), The Kennard (13th) and Villa Magdala (20th).
