300 students took part in The University of Bath Student Union’s first ever colour run and raised £1950 for WaterAid’s lifesaving work, with a little help from Olympic Skeleton champion Lizzie Yarnold.
Organised by SU Sport, student group V Team and Wessex Water, runners could participate in either a 5km or 10km run around the Claverton Down campus.
Five stations were located around the course, with volunteers covering runners head to toe in a rainbow of colours.
Runners had an exciting start with the race officially begun by Lizzie Yarnold, double Olympic Skeleton champion.
More than 70 volunteers from V Team and Wessex Water were also involved, running registration as well as staffing colour stations and marshal points.
Xue Ling, V Team Leader for the Colour Run said: “The Colour Run was a great opportunity to bring people together for a fun sporting event, while also raising vital funds and awareness for WaterAid.
“I was also lucky enough to be able to work with an amazing team filled with passionate individuals, constantly motivating and inspiring me to continue to volunteer.
“It was a big team effort and we’re so pleased to have raised nearly £2,000 to help transform lives across the world with clean water and decent toilets.”
Spirits were high as students ran the course covered in eye-catching colours with music playing, creating an exciting festival feel to the event.
Hannah Larkin, Colour Run participant said: “I got involved because it was a great way to combine participating in something I’d always wanted to do and also raising awareness of WaterAid.”
The Colour Run sold out in less than four days, with 300 students signing up to take part.
All of the funds raised from the event will go to WaterAid who carry out life changing work in 28 countries by providing clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
