A fascinating archaeological event at the Roman Baths is offering the chance to delve 2,000 years into the past and explore the huge importance of Bath in Roman times.
The exclusive “Bath and the Roman Empire” day school, on Saturday 8th February from 10am to 4pm, gives a unique chance to learn about Roman Bath and its significance in the Empire.
This day school includes lectures, a behind the scenes tour and object handling sessions to explore Roman Bath’s status in the province, and beyond; and will look at archaeological evidence that shows the religious activity and bathing based around the hot springs were unique within Roman Britain.
The Roman Baths Collections Manager Susan Fox, said: “The day school is a must for anyone interested in Roman Bath and its archaeology. You will get a chance to go beyond what you would normally experience on a museum visit. You’ll also find out about the conservation role that The Roman Baths plays in preserving the site and the collections for the future.”
Illustrated talks will explain the buildings and activities that took place in them, and are very hands-on with the opportunity to closely examine objects from the collections of The Roman Baths.
