Value hotel chain Travelodge has submitted plans to Bath and North East Somerset Council to convert former offices in the centre of Bath into their third hotel site in the city.
The chain, which has hotels on George Street (Bath Central) and on Rossiter Road in Widcombe (Waterside) plans to convert the former offices in Westgate Buildings into a two-storey hotel.
The planning application describes how the hotel will have a total of 56 rooms; 34 family, 19 doubles and 3 accessible.
The hotel will be sited above the Sports Direct, Halfords and Maplin stores on Westgate Buildings, and will stretch back to above the Sony Centre and Sally.
The plans have also detailed how the Sony Centre store will be closed and converted into a linen intake, cycle store and refuse area.
No part of the proposed changes in the application are expected to have an effect on the scale or appearance of the existing building.
Westgate Building was built in the 1930s and until 2000 was occupied by the Co-op department store.
The upper floors were converted into offices after the department store closed.
