West of England Mayor Dan Norris tried his hand at glass blowing during a visit to Bath earlier this week, as part of efforts to help the tourism industry recover.

Independent glass production company Bath Aqua Glass has received a cash injection from the West of England Combined Authority.

The new Metro Mayor tried his hand at blowing a glass vase while business owner Adrian Dolan explained how the grant will be used to create an artisan licensed café in the glass blowing centre.

This will help boost the number of people visiting and enable their team to link up with other artists.

Mr Norris was also shown a range of the bespoke products that skilled craftspeople make including glass pendants, paperweights and penguins.

Dan Norris said: “Glass blowing is a lot harder than it looks! It’s a true craft and certainly an experience visitors won’t forget.

“Bath is already a must see for many tourists to the West of England, but it’s important to keep continuing to improve the experience for everyone.”

Adrian Dolan added: “Bath is well known for its attractions like the Roman Baths, the Circus and Bath Abbey, but there’s so much more on offer to visitors than just the historic sights.

“The funding we’ve received will help us draw more people in to take-part in our workshops, providing hands on memorable experiences.”
