Ahead of the 2017 UEFA Champions League final, business-savvy hotel owners in Bath are capitalising on the event by charging guests up to 123% more than usual, according to a survey by Cheaprooms.co.uk.
The match between Real Madrid and Juventus will take place at Cardiff’s Principality stadium on 3rd June, and with virtually all hotel rooms in the Welsh capital already sold out for the event, many supporters making the trip are looking elsewhere for their accommodation.
Bath and Bristol are both less than one-and-a-half hours away from Cardiff by train and National Rail are putting on extra services running until 2.00am the morning after the final.
Consequently, both destinations are expected to attract the custom of a number of travelling fans.
However, those keen to secure themselves a room in either Bath or Bristol should act fast. In Bristol, less than 10% of hotels currently have availability for the night before or after the final and rates are still rising too.
On average, Bristol hotels are charging 178% more than their standard rates, while some are pushing up their prices by as much as 400%.
In Bath, the options are slightly better, with 20% of hotels currently offering availability for the weekend of 2nd-4th June and rates are remaining more affordable too.
Most hotels across Bath have increased their prices by 123% compared with their standard rates.
