Brassknocker Hill, one of the main routes in and out of Bath, will be closing for five days for resurfacing work next month.
The road, which is used by hundreds of motorists each day, will be closed to allow for the surface to be relaid, which will make it safer.
The council will be closing the road on 17th February, and it will re-open on 21st February.
The whole road will be resurfaced, from the junction at Claverton Down Road to the bottom at the junction of the A36 Warminster Road.
A diversion will be put in place, with residents advised to continue in and out of Bath via the A36.
The A36 will also be closed overnight next month for resurfacing work carried out by the Highways Agency to be completed.
The road will close between 8pm and 5am on Tuesday 11th February into the 12th. This completes work being carried out last year to resurface the bends between Claverton and Limpley Stoke.
Dates for the closure of the A36 between Hantone Hill in Bathampton and Brassknocker Hill for emergency repair work have also now been finalised.
The route is expected to be closed from 17th March until 30th June, 24/7, while remedial work is undertaken to prevent some parts of the road sliding down the hill.
