Bath Foodbank has been overwhelmed in recent months by the incredible generosity of local people who’ve donated huge amounts of food to the charity.
During the Autumn Harvest period alone, a record breaking 9 tons of food was received.
However, due to the huge volume of items donated then and at Christmas, people are being asked to hold back from making any more donations for the next two months apart from long life fruit juice, tinned fruit and sugar.
Bath Foodbank is asking its donors who give at supermarkets or churches to limit what they give to these 3 items until mid March.
Chair of Bath Foodbank Jillian Tempo said: “Once again we’re so grateful for everyone’s generosity and expect that we shall be appealing for food again in a few months.”
Last year, Bath Foodbank gave out 33.6 tonnes of food to local families suffering a crisis and unable to buy food.
The main reason for them attending the Foodbank was low income, followed by benefit delay.
Foodbank vouchers are issued by more than 80 agencies in the Bath area including Citizens Advice Bureau, health professionals and churches.
The wards receiving most food parcels are Twerton, Abbey and Walcot. Over a quarter of the people the foodbank have fed are children.
