Police officers from around the country are gearing up to support next week’s NATO summit in Wales, and Bath’s officers will be doing their bit to help deliver a safe event.
The summit takes place at the Celtic Manor resort in Gwent on Thursday 4th September and Friday 5th September.
The scale of the event means there will be a small impact on the local area and Avon and Somerset Police been working closely with Gwent Police and South Wales Police to support them in delivering a peaceful and crime-free summit.
In the coming days and during the event itself, people may see an increase in police officers in Bristol, Bath and the surrounding area.
Police officers have been drafted in from other parts of the country to help support the summit in Wales and ensure that policing in the communities in the Avon area of the force remains unaffected.
Hotels in the greater Bristol area and in Bath will be used by delegates and others associated with the summit and accommodation will be provided at various points in the force area to accommodate police officers from elsewhere in the country.
Speaking about the operation, Superintendent Kevin Instance said: “We’ve been working hard to support our Welsh colleagues in delivering a safe NATO summit, and to make sure at the same time that policing on our own streets remains unaffected.
“There will be police officers from across the country in our area so people shouldn’t be surprised or worried if they see officers in the area with different caps and badges.
“At the moment, we don’t expect any major disruption in the city and we hope that communities will be able to go about their lives and daily business as usual without any impact from the summit.”
