Local artists and designers are being encouraged to put forward their ideas on what a new window Cross at Haycombe Crematorium could look like.
The Cross will be hung in the window and removed if requested by the family using the facilities.
Councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield), Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said, “We are really keen to hear from people who think they can provide a high quality, suitable design for Haycombe Crematorium. The Cross will be used for generations, so this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone to play their part in history with by putting their ideas forward.”
Hugh Mackay, from the Keep to Cross campaign, added, “After months of consultation and a lot of public pressure to retain the cross, including a 5000 strong petition, we are pleased that a solution has been reached in that a cross is proposed that can blend into the window and remain there permanently, although removable on request. We thank the Council for their co-operation in coming to this decision.”
Anyone interested can contact the Council on [email protected] to obtain more details and the design brief. Designs need to be submitted by 5pm on Monday 19th November 2012.
