Avon and Somerset Police in Bath arrested two men and dismantled a small cannabis factory after executing a drugs warrant at a house in Weston on Thursday.
They found 16 cannabis plants being grown in a garden outhouse, and cannabis production equipment. A 17-year-old man was charged with possessing a Class B controlled drug, cannabis, and bailed to appear before Bath Youth Court on October 18th.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing a Class B controlled drug, cannabis, and possessing an offensive weapon. He was bailed to November 14th.
The drugs warrant was part of Operation Relentless across Bath and North-East Somerset, which over the past three weeks has seen suspected burglars arrested and stolen property seized.
Officers are working with the University of Bath and Bath Spa University to offer new students important crime prevention advice, following four break-ins at the Claverton Down campus this month where laptops were stolen. Messages have been sent out via Facebook and Twitter. A 36-year-old man from Bristol has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and bailed.
Also on Thursday, officers carried out stop checks of vehicles in the Bath area using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology. One vehicle was taken off the road for having no insurance, two drivers were given spot fines for no MOTs and six drivers were breath-tested.
Police teams working with B&NES Council were also active across the district looking for rogue traders – unscrupulous workmen who tend to target the elderly and vulnerable. They usually cold call for custom, then dupe the householder. One common trick is to give a quote but raise the price once work has begun.
Operation Relentless continues and Bath police say they will be carrying out more warrants, stop-searches of people and vehicles and making more arrests – helping you feel safe in Avon and Somerset.
