Travel and Tourism students from City of Bath College are helping College staff to find the perfect destination for that all-important summer holiday.
The students have met with a number of staff looking to get away for a break in the sun this summer. After a brief chat about the type of holiday they would like, the students get to work – researching destinations, things to see and do and even airports and flight times.
The idea is to give the students experience of dealing with ‘customers’, as part of their studies around retail travel operations.
Student Lauren Angove said: “We’ve had a lot of interest from staff who have wanted help in planning all different types of holidays. We’ve been looking into family holidays and breaks away for gay couples too.
“We use brochures and the internet to research destinations, whether they are long haul or closer to home, as well as checking the Foreign and Commonwealth website.
“We then put together the approximate costings, as well as some suggestions on the things to see and do while they are away.
“It’s been a good project. We’ve had a lot of fun and also learned about the importance of a professional customer-focused attitude in business.”
Tutor Heather Orr said: “It’s been a very successful project that’s proved a big hit with the students and the staff too. The students have worked very hard and I know the staff really appreciate the effort that’s been put in to finding them the perfect summer holiday.”
