Don Foster, the MP for Bath, is backing the ‘Buy Local Week’ which takes place this week, between 3rd – 9th June 2013.
‘Buy Local Week’ is a campaign supported by The Best of Bath, a local company which champions recommended independent businesses in the area for the benefit of residents and businesses alike.
The core element of the campaign is to get people to do more for the area – a simple sticker in a window or car is one way but just changing how we spend can make a huge difference to the local economy.
Commenting, Don Foster MP, said: “As both MP for Bath and the Minister for Localism I am of course fully behind the ‘buy local’ campaign!
“I once called the Localism Agenda a “quiet revolution” – but it’s getting noisier all the time as we give more powers back to communities, promote local production and champion the consumption of local products”
“Supporting and using local businesses for your everyday needs boosts the local economy which will in turn benefit local residents.”
The campaign also has the full support of James Tribe – the local best of Bath champion who explained the campaign in more detail.
“We have distinctive and wonderful independent shops and businesses in our area, but we shouldn’t take them for granted. ‘Buy Local’ reminds us that they need the support both of residents and local policy makers.
“We need to learn from the areas that have bucked the trend of empty shops and declining parades around the country. With everyone committed to supporting local business, combined with a loyal and active community, we can have lively, vibrant, useful high streets.”
“High streets with a variety of shops and services give so much back to the communities they are at the heart of, let alone that all-important pint of milk! They become more resilient, self sustaining, and help to nurture new start-ups.”
“Bath has some wonderfully vibrant local business communities. Just look at Larkhall, Widecombe, Moorland Road, Chelsea Road, Bear Flat, Twerton, Weston, and not forgetting the City Centre!”
