A cash injection of nearly £4,500 has been made to Butterflies Haven – a supportive environment for young people who are somewhere on the Austistic Spectrum – so that their service can be expanded in response to local demand.

Councillor Alan Hale (Con. Keynsham South) and Councillor Marie Longstaff (Con. Keynsham East) used part of their Ward Councillors Initiative Fund that empowers elected members to respond quickly to local community needs where a small amount of financial support can make a big difference. They have also joined the organisation in calling for more people to volunteer to help even more children and families in the future.

Councillor Hale said, “Butterflies Haven provides an essential service for families of young people with autism. They offer high quality advice and support which I am aware reduces the feeling of isolation and loneliness. I’m very pleased to be using part of the Council’s Ward Councillor Initiative fund to help expand their service.”

Councillor Longstaff added, “I hope that local people will see the excellent service that Butterflies Haven provide and are encouraged to volunteer their time to help provide the service for more people in the future.”

Butterflies Haven has operated for a number of years also providing support to parents and cares. They are run by volunteers and have over 60 members.

Trish Williams, founder of Butterflies Haven, said, “This money will enable us to cover the additional costs of running an expanded group and provide a support service for the siblings of children somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum, including trips and activities.

“We are now keen to build upon this investment by asking more people to come forward and volunteer for us. This would allow us to help many more families and children. I’d be very happy to have an informal discussion with anyone who is interested.”

Do you think that you could provide Butterflies Haven with some voluntary time to help local children who are somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum? People can get in touch via [email protected]

The organisation also has a website: http://www.butterflies-haven.co.uk/

These details can also be used for people in need of advice and support.
