Following emails from local residents, on Saturday, 16th March, Local Activist Sarah Moore organised a morning to help clear the rubbish that had built up in the lanes that run between the rear of the properties in Coronation Avenue and Ivy Avenue.

The rubbish, mostly household, had built up to such a large quantity a complete stretch of the lane was inaccessible.

The rubbish included items such as 3 computer monitors, a mattress, old sofa bed, a bike frame and a rusty barbeque and also resulted in over 40 waste bags being filled with the smaller items such as cans and bottles.

Councillor Sharon Ball said:  “As the lanes running between the back of the houses are private, the residents are responsible for them, however, the quantity of rubbish that had built up in this particular lane over the past 2 years and had become unmanageable.

“I was happy to join Sarah Moore and several residents to clear the large quantity of rubbish.”

Staff from BANES had to make three trips to collect the volume of rubbish that was collected.  The lanes are now clear and residents can now walk safely through them.

For more information about other action days being carried out in the Westmoreland area, please contact Sarah Moore 07807013635 or Councillor Sharon Ball 01225 400834.
