Work has now begun to widen the road and create an extra traffic lane at the Tunley Fork junction on the A367, helping to ease traffic on the busy route.
Preliminary work on the road has already started, with the widening of the junction due to be completed by the end of January.
The improvements to the junction will include the creation of a new right-turn lane at Tunley Fork on the A367 Fosseway onto the B3315 Tunley Road.
Work will be paused over the Christmas and New Year period, and restart in early January.
The work has been welcomed by the area’s local Councillor David Veale (Cons, Bathavon West), who has campaigned for several years for the widening to take place at the junction in order to ease traffic congestion and improve safety for cars using the busy route.
Councillor Veale (Cons, Bathavon West) said: “I’m pleased to see that preliminary work has started on widening the Tunley Fork junction to create a new right-turn lane from the A367 onto Tunley Road.
“I few months ago I surveyed local residents to find out their views of the Council’s proposals for this junction and the response was almost entirely positive.
“Once complete, this work should hopefully improve traffic at this location and improve safety.
“Hopefully disruption during the work will be kept to a minimum, but I’m sure the end result will be welcomed by residents and motorists.”
