Former England and Bath rugby player Nigel Redman will be speaking at an event to mark Older People’s Day in Bath on Wednesday 1st October.
Organised by local charity Age UK B&NES it will take place at Bath Cricket Club from 10am – 12pm and is aimed primarily at men.
As well as hearing more about Nigel’s career and the importance of fitness and health, there will be an opportunity to meet others over a bacon sandwich and tea.
A similar event is being held on the same day at The Hub in a Pub at the Stoke Inn, Chew Stoke.
There will be a woodturning demonstration, a performance from a local barbershop quartet as well as a chance to meet the local walking group and talk about recommended reads.
Janet Dabbs, chief executive of Age UK Bath and North East Somerset, said: “We want to meet and talk to older men and find out more about the types of services they would like us to offer.
“At the moment less than 10% of those who come along to our activities are men, although we know that many older men are sometimes lonely and would like to get involved.
“It may be that it’s a bit harder for them to come along and join or it could be that the types of things we do don’t appeal to them – this is why it is so important that we get their views.
“Perhaps some are interesting in learning about fishing, or perhaps they would like someone to watch sport with – we’re open to new ideas.”
To make sure that there are enough bacon sandwiches for all, Age UK B&NES would like you to reserve your place.

Age UK B&NES is a local charity that supports around 12,000 older people, their families and carers every year, with essential services.
It is always looking for more support and funding, as well as volunteers.
