Bath firefighters were called to rescue a man and a child from their car last night after they got into difficulty driving through the flooded A431 Kelston Road.

The man and his ten-year-old girl were trapped in the car by the water after it cut out as they travelled through the flood.

Avon Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of the incident, with the VW Passat stuck in water above the wheel arches.

The flooding was caused by rain falling across the area throughout the day, with locals reporting that the Kelston Road was becoming dangerous to drive through earlier in the evening.

The vehicle became stuck in around 60 yards of flood water, which continued to rise as the rain poured during the rescue.

Firefighters managed to get to the stuck car using wet suits, and carried the girl and the man to safety.

The A431 Kelston Road remains closed this morning due to the severity of the flooding.
