The University of Bath scored eight tries as they overpowered their Cardiff counterparts in a British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Super Rugby Round 15 encounter on Wednesday 11th February.
James Beverley converted all the scores as Bath maintained their title challenge with a 56-26 win – their eighth consecutive triumph – at the Sports Training Village.
Bath started that run of victories with a 77-14 success in November’s reverse fixture – and they produced another clinical performance at home on their artificial pitch to keep the pressure on table-toppers Loughborough.
Bath and Loughborough are both unbeaten but the Midlanders lead the way by one point from the second-placed Somerset side.
The match against Cardiff was as good as over at half-time, with Louis Bouverie, Jack Harrison, Max Pearce, Harry Walker and Rocky Prowse touching down in the first period and Beverely majoring all five scores for a 35-12 advantage.
Henry Mountford’s try and another Beverley conversion extended the lead early in the second half.
Cardiff reduced the arrears to 42-26 with a pair of converted touchdowns in the space of seven minutes.
However, any hopes of a serious comeback by the Welsh outfit were dispelled just after the hour when Harrison – fresh from making his Bath Rugby senior debut in their PREM Rugby Cup victory over Sale Sharks on Sunday 8th February – grabbed his second try of the evening,
Beverley added the extras and completed a perfect evening from the tee when he converted replacement Ollie Critchley’s try two minutes from time.
University of Bath’s next match is away to Swansea on Wednesday 25th February.
Thereafter Bath will entertain Loughborough in Round 17 in their final home game on Wednesday 4th March and then go to Durham a week later.
The clash with Loughborough will kick-off at 6.30pm – and admission for spectators is free.
