Peasedown St John is to hold a special celebration event to congratulate all those involved in Peasedown Youth Albion FC – set up three years ago which has gone from strength to strength.

With their headquarters at Peasedown Cricket Club, the football teams have access to four football pitches which are kept in top condition for players.

Lisa Smith, who with her husband Martin won the Sara Holley Community Award in 2013 for services to youth football, is chairman of the club.

She said: “Peasedown Youth Albion has had another great year with more and more young people taking part in one of our teams.

“We now have new equipment which has been funded by Peasedown St John Parish Council, the Party in the Park Grant Fund, Cllr Nathan Hartley’s Initiative Fund, and local business owners, Karen and David Walker.

“We also have a new management committee, which has a different and more efficient  way of doing things. These new people on board have brought great new ideas and along with the older members of the club we are moving in a very positive direction.”

Peasedown Youth Albion can proudly boast:

  • New teams for under 8s, 10s, 11s, 13s, 14s (all playing in the Midsomer Norton and District youth league) and 15s (Avon and Bristol District youth league);
  • A new adult wing of the club who play on Sunday mornings in the Frome and District League.

Peasedown councillor Nathan Hartley said: “Well done to everyone at Peasedown Youth Albion for all their success over the last three years. We are all very proud of their achievements.

“I know that the club has also been working with Peasedown Athletic FC, which has seen a number of younger players join them in recent times from Albion.

“Overall, there are a lot of sporting opportunities in the community which have done a lot to boost our village’s position on the regional stage.”

With the help of Nikki Sly, Peasedown Albions new secretary, a new football kit has been designed – which will give an even fresher look to the team when they are in action.

Lisa added: “All we need now are more businesses to come forward to sponsor some of our teams, like Westcountry Vending who have agreed to buy a new kit for the under 14s team.”

Any businesses who would like to sponsor a team can contact Lisa by emailing [email protected].

All of the year’s successes will be celebrated at a special FA Respect Afternoon, attended by local business owners Karen and David Walker, and Cllr Nathan Hartley, on Sunday 31st August, 2-4pm at Peasedown Cricket Club.
