Odd Down Sports Ground has undergone a complete transformation in the last two years following the over £3.2m investment from the Council, Football Foundation, RFU, British Cycling, Sport England and the ECB.

It now features:

  • A new pavilion, including eight changing rooms, café and community space;
  • 3G Astro Pitch (football/rugby);
  • 1.5km off-road cycle circuit;
  • Improved grass pitches for football, rugby and cricket.

At 12 noon on Monday, the pavilion will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting, by the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr David Dixon.

He will be joined by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Crossley, and the Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing, Cllr Simon Allen.

The ward Councillors for Odd Down and Lyncombe have also been invited to attend.

Cllr Dixon said: “I’m delighted that we’re opening the final element of this fantastic new facility for the community.

“Many local clubs are already taking advantage of what’s on offer, and we want to encourage schools, groups and local residents to come and see what is available.

“We want everyone to make use of the facilities and take part in the range of activities that will be on offer.”

The new team at the Odd Down Sports Ground hosted holiday camps for children over the February half term, and is now planning for the Easter holidays.

With the Pavilion open, there are also plans for rugby and football courses for pre-school children on weekday mornings, in addition to the pre-school cycling sessions which have been taking place for the past 18 months.

The Council’s Try Active team of Felix Young, Steph Akpinar and Becks Toan will be getting local people more active by providing cycling, walking, running and outdoor fitness opportunities at the site.

For more information about using the facilities at Odd Down Sports Ground, contact the Active Lifestyles and Health Improvement Team on 01225 396429 or email [email protected].
