Bike Bath have announced that Olympic Skeleton Champion Amy Williams will be their female ambassador, helping to encourage females to take to the saddle at the event on 3rd July.
The organisers of Bike Bath pride themselves by offering a fun and friendly day of cycling – the event already has appeal to female cyclists with nearly 30% of sign ups coming from this demographic which is considerably high in this field and moving away from the stigma that sportives are just for men in lycra.
Talking about her love of cycling the Gold Olympic Medallist, Amy Williams, said: “For me cycling is great for many reason – you can get to places quickly, for free, whilst being able to enjoy your surroundings and it’s a fantastic form of exercise – whether it’s a pootle to the park with family or more of a serious hilly training session – it’s so good for your health and fitness and you get some fresh air!
“Yes, living in Bath does mean you may well hit the odd hill, but with the many cycle paths now available there are lots of flatter safer routes now available.
“I’m really looking forward to Bike Bath – the routes look fantastic and I’ll get the chance to ride through some really pretty villages that surround Bath – it’ll also be a great warm up for me, as I’m attempting the very challenging L’Etape de Tour in the French Alps the following weekend!
“I’d encourage anyone out there who is thinking about getting back in the saddle or who already cycles to sign up and join in for what promises to be a great day of cycling – with marked routes, feed-stations and the chance to enjoy the relaxed post ride atmosphere – not forgetting your finisher’s medal as recognition of your achievement.”
Bike Bath offers a number of distances so cyclists of all abilities can take part and the shorter 25 mile ride, which is sponsored by local not-for-profit housing company Curo, is the perfect distance for those new to cycling or for those wanting to enjoy a friendly organised event with friends and family members.
Talking about the cycling event, Donna Baddeley, Curo’s Executive Director of Corporate Services, said: “We’re excited to be supporting Bike Bath this year and hope lots of Curo residents will join us on the Curo 25-mile route.
“At Curo we’re into cycling in a big way and I’m looking forward to joining our team of Curo colleagues, raising money for Dorothy House – a local charity that’s close to our heart which is also Bike Bath’s supported charity this year.”
For those wanting to push themselves or use as a training platform the 50 mile route is the perfect choice.
For those wanting something more challenging the 80 mile route option offers some calf crunching climbs.
