Spaces have once again become available on Age UK B&NES’ popular computer classes for beginners, giving older people the opportunity to get interactive.
The charity runs two separate four-week courses in Bath – one looking at using laptops and the other iPads.
They are taught by a team of volunteers with each pupil receiving one-to-one tuition.
The team teaches the basics and is keen to remove the fear that many people have when it comes to using computers. Areas covered include emailing, using the internet and word-processing.
One recent student said: “I came to the lesson unable to send photos to friends or email – I have now learned many things and would like to say thank you to Age UK B&NES.”
There is no need to bring anything along as students can use the charity’s laptop computers; separate training is available on iPads.
The four-week courses cost £12 and take place on a Wednesday morning at Age UK’s St Michaels Centre, St Michaels Place, Bath. To book a place or find out more, contact Kate Tate, Age UK Bath and North East Somerset, on 01225 466135. Places must be booked.
Age UK B&NES is also encouraging older people who want to improve their digital skills to attend a Techy Tea Party on Tuesday 9th September, at the EE store in Southgate, Bath.
The store is offering to help customers with their tech challenges from 9.30am-11am. People who sign up to attend the event should take along the device they want to learn more about such as a mobile phone, tablet or laptop.

Age UK B&NES is a local charity that supports around 12,000 older people, their families and carers every year, with essential services.
It has a small team of staff and around 150 volunteers who assist with a variety of tasks including day care and lunch club provision, toenail cutting and home from hospital services.
