Sainsbury’s Bath Southgate has shown it cares this month with a £400 donation to the Carers’ Centre, to be set aside for training and skills workshops for carers.
A carer can be anyone, of any age, who looks after someone who can’t manage without them, be it because they are frail or have a mental or physical illness.
David Trumper, the Carers’ Centre acting Chief Executive, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by Sainsbury’s Southgate.
“We rely on donations and sponsorship to continue our work supporting carers – like offering skills and training opportunities to help people get back into employment or coping skills to manage their situation.”
Caring for someone can be incredibly stressful, exhausting and isolating, and is a daily reality for seven million people in the UK, and at least 20,000 people in Bath and North East Somerset.
Unpaid carers save the state £119bn each year, and yet they can find themselves in poverty as many give up an income, future employment prospects and pension rights to continue caring.
Sainsbury’s Community Budgets are funded by the sales of Bags for Life – the alternative to plastic carrier bags, and contribute to donations for charities and charitable organisations that promote healthy lifestyles in the local community.
The supermarket presented the Carers’ Centre with their big cheque on Monday.
