Ongoing street works on the London Road in Bath will be completed shortly, following pressure from Walcot’s Lib Dem Councillor Richard Samuel, according to an update earlier this week.
The announcement was made by the Cabinet member for Transport and Environment at a meeting of the ‘Communities, Transport and Environment’ committee on Monday.
It was confirmed that works to complete the loading bay at Walcot Terrace had already begun and that the changes to the inbound cycle lane will be tackled next, including the vital lane separators or ‘orcas’.
Finally, the missing section of new paving at Anglo Terrace will be installed over the summer.
Councillor Richard Samuel commented: “I have been urging the completion of these works for 4 months. Some have been outstanding for years, so it’s welcome that the Cabinet member has finally agreed with me they now need to be completed.
“Sadly, these are not the last unresolved issues. Repairs are needed to the pavement where utilities contractors laid tarmac after gas works replacing the block paving; it would make sense for this to be done at the same time as Anglo Terrace.
“And we still have no answer on the fate of the bespoke London Road planters. Since the threat to scrap them, they have been completely neglected by the Council, leaving residents fed up.
“I called for the Cabinet member to take responsibility and ensure the containers are properly planted and watered. I will continue to press for them to stay on the London Road as originally intended.
“London Road is an important gateway into Bath from the East and it is essential that the Council keeps it looking good as well as a great environment for residents.”
