Bath’s MP has completed over 6000 bits of casework since she was elected in June 2017, with around 19 cases per working day being closed by Wera Hobhouse and her team.
Casework is a vital part of a Member of Parliament’s role. People call, write and email in to Wera’s office to discuss their concerns, and ask for help.
Wera said: “Casework is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. It’s also very important for me to stay ‘in-touch’ with challenges that people are facing, and the impact of this government’s policies. Many people are struggling.”
Casework is very varied in content. From visa applications and immigration cases, to housing disputes and problems with council services, the MP’s office helps with a wide range of problems within society.
Wera has also ensured that empty properties have been investigated and made ready for renting to address Bath’s housing problems. She has also supported applications for school places and resolved issues regarding noise complaints and graffiti.
This work has a direct positive impact on people’s lives. Wera managed to get a visa for a man stranded abroad so he could spend time with his dying wife in the UK. She also got a resident an audience at the Clinical Commissioning Group’s board meeting after the resident had a terrible experience at A&E.
Wera continued: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my team of hardworking and dedicated staff, without whom my job would be impossible. If anyone thinks my team and I might be able to help you, please do get in touch.”
