Labour’s leaders on B&NES and South Gloucestershire councils have teamed up to ask their respective Council leaders a set of questions about the Combined Authority after its first year of operation.
The Conservative leaders of the two councils are members of the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) alongside the Metro Mayor and the Mayor of Bristol.
The questions seek their assessment of the WECA’s performance in six areas:
- Achievements;
- Ambition and vision;
- Organisation and structure;
- Profile and communication;
- Sub-regional leadership;
- Developing relationships and partnerships.
Councillors Robin Moss (B&NES Labour Leader) and Pat Rooney (South Glos Labour Leader) explained: “The West of England Combined Authority has been running for a year now, so it seems a good time to judge how it has been doing.
“Our councils’ Tory leaders form one half of the authority, so they should be well placed to report back.
“We do have concerns about WECA’s profile and leadership, and will be interested to discover whether our Tory leaders share these.
“We therefore hope that they will give us a full and frank assessment of WECA’s first year based on their experience and involvement. We trust they will not fob us and our residents off with identikit answers.”
The questions are scheduled for answer at the Council meetings at Bath & North East Somerset on 10th May and at South Gloucestershire on 16th May.
