Bath MP Ben Howlett is continuing to lobby Ministers and Mayoral candidates alike to ensure a link road between the A36 and A46 is created, with funding being sought for a feasibility study.
Last week Ben welcomed the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling to Bath, who saw the congestion along the London Road and gave his backing to Ben’s bid to improve the transport infrastructure in and around the city.
Ben and the Minister also met with Mayoral candidate Tim Bowles, as the new Mayor of the West of England will have budgetary responsibility for such key infrastructure projects.
Ben said: “The A36/46 link road is a key project I have been working on as part of my Six Point Plan and commitment to Stop Bath Stalling.
“The A36/46 link road would ensure that much of the traffic that currently travels through the city centre would be diverted helping to significantly reduce the traffic travelling through Bath.
“Not only is this essential for those who live in the city, and commute to the city, but it will also help reduce air pollution and through traffic, desirable for the continuation of the city’s world heritage status.
“I have already secured the support of the Chancellor and many at the Department of Transport and Highways England for this vital project, as well as presenting a parliamentary petition with over 3000 local signatures on to the House of Commons.
“The next stage is a feasibility study, which I am campaigning hard for. I have already discussed this at length with Bath and North East Somerset Council as well as Highways England and many within the Department of Transport to ensure that the funding for this crucial next step is secured.
“Stopping Bath Stalling remains one of my very top priorities for the city and I will continue to campaign tirelessly to ensure this key piece of infrastructure is prioritised.”
