To enable the transition from diesel to electric buses and contribute to the generation of electricity from renewable sources (solar), First Bus was granted planning permission last September to install 64 ground-mounted electric chargers and four overhead steel gantries, along with electrical substations.
Now the company has submitted an application to Bath & North East Somerset Council for six steel gantries to house more electric vehicles.
This will involve the relocation of the bus wash and demolition of the service lane building.
The application says: “The proposed works to the site will be of minimal change to the current layout.
“Buses will still access the site via the bridge, travel around the depot in a clockwise direction and proceed through the relocated wash each night.
“To allow all the buses to park on site, the fleet will be charged via overhead gantries. These allow the yard to be left clear in the daytime for car parking and driver training.
“First Bus is currently in the process of installing four gantries on this site.”
The access will remain as it is, coming into the site via the bridge connection off Lower Bristol Road.
The planning reference is 26/00472/FUL, and the deadline for comments is 26th March.
