Peasedown St John’s Parish Council has approved a £90,000 spend for a new skate park to be built within the thriving village.
The funding for the project, which will come from S106 money from the recent Wellow Lane Development, was approved at Full Council in January this year.
The skate park is part of a £210,000 spend for the village, which will also include a refurbished and increased size play park on Beacon Field.
Councillor Jo Davis, who is part of the team project managing the spend, said: “We are really excited that this is happening in Peasedown. It has long been a concern that there are very few facilities in the village for teenagers and, with the full backing of the local youth services and the local police, we are sure this will be a welcome asset to the village.
“There is a working party of four Councillors, who are meeting with contractors and local groups to ensure we get the design right and have the best facility we can for the village with the budget available.
“As part of the consultation process for the skate park, we have been working with Bath & North East Somerset Council Youth Worker, Bridie Marshall, and together we are asking that all 11 to 18 year olds who have an interest in the design of the new skate park, come along to a meeting on the 12th March 2014 at Peasedown Youth Centre (next to the Primary School).
“During the evening the children will have the opportunity to meet with skate park designers, look at photos and videos of skate parks in other areas, and give their opinions on what they would like to see in the new park. They will also be able to look at and comment on some draft designs. It’s very important to the Parish Council that we get the design right, and who better to consult with than the people who will be using it.”
The meeting at Peasedown Youth Centre, Bath Road, Peasedown St John, will be on Wednesday 12th March 2014, and will begin at 6.30pm. They are to welcome all skate board users, BMX bikers and scooter riders.
