It’s just days to go until Peasedown St John’s biggest annual event – the 5th Party in the Park village festival.
Sponsored by Bath and North East Somerset Council and Curo Housing Association, up to 3,000 people are expected to come along to enjoy 7 hours of live music and entertainment, a huge array of stalls and attractions, a Farmers’ Market and the return of the Peasedown Diamond cider.
Jo Bellotti, Curo Resident Involvement Officer, said: “This year’s Party in the Park looks like being the best yet and we’re really pleased to be supporting this brilliant community event once again.”
The headline act for the festival is the popular tribute-band The Mangledwurzels who will be performing live on stage at 3pm. Since they were formed in 2005, they’ve sold out festivals, events and fetes across the West Country.
Other performers include ‘Heat’, Neil Sartain, Martin Dimery, Susan Hill School of Dance, Lease Keen’s Zumba group, and children from Peasedown Primary to celebrate the school’s centenary.
Peasedown councillor Nathan Hartley is the chairman of the event team. He commented: “We are hoping to top last year’s event – which was the most successful in our village’s history where crowds packed the Beacon Field to celebrate HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
“The team has worked exceptionally hard this year. Thanks to Karen Walker we have almost 60 attractions, the most we’ve ever had, thanks to Jo Davis we have more than 50 volunteers signed up to make sure things run smoothly. And thanks to Mike Auton we have smashed our fundraising target of £4,000 which we need to host the event.”
Cllr Neil Butters, the Chairman of B&NES Council, will officially open the festivities just before 12.30 pm and announce the first act.
Cllr Sarah Bevan, who secured the sponsorship from B&NES Council, will welcome the Mangledwurzels on stage.
The Party in the Park Management Team are also pleased to welcome two Special Guest Hosts who will keep the crowds happy in between performances.
Alan McLaughlin, who works with Oscar Academy Award and Bafta winner Peter Sword at the Global Virtual Theatre Project, co-founded of the Leadmill Circus in Sheffield. He’s a tenured actor and has managed a number of bands working with RealWorld and other groups.
Tom Bradey, a local radio show host of Somer Valley FM. Tom is well known for his love of soap operas, story lines, and aspires to hit the national radio someday.
As well as a Farmers’ Market, the Sara Holley Community Award and Somer Valley FM broadcasting live, other attractions include; Red Post Beer Tent, Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club, Peasedown Albion Football Club, The Sweet Treat Boutique, Somerset and Dorset Hog Roast, No.6 Restaurant, Laurel Farm Kindergarten, Disney Wrights Ice Cream, Tea Cups Roundabout, Helter Skelter, Tin-Can Alley, Bungee Trampoline, Gladiator Dual, Bouncy Castles, Quad Bikes, Fun Fair Big Wheel, Thornbury League of Friends, Rainy Day Cake Company, Shoscombe Primary School, Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Also for the first time ever, festival attendees will be able to share their Moods and Memories with the help of social media on the day.
Entertainment Manager Danny Brothers said: “Those that attend will be given a special Twitter hash-tag so they can send messages through to the stage management team, and will be given details of how to upload their mobile phone pictures onto Facebook of the event as it happens.”
Peasedown St John’s Midsummer Party in the Park Festival will be held on Saturday 22nd June on Beacon Field, French Close, from 12 noon – 7pm. Parking is limited around Orchard Way so people are encouraged to walk or use public transport. B&NES Council has granted a road closure for French Close for the duration of the event.
