A well used play and community meeting space in Peasedown St John has been given a makeover, just in time for local residents to enjoy it during the summer months.
‘The Green’, located in Frederick and Albert Avenues, has been used as a central recreational area since the 1950’s.
Last year, a recent public consultation, organised by Cllr Karen Walker, the Residents’ Association and Curo Housing found that people wanted to see The Green used more often by the community.
As a result, new trees and shrubs have been planted, fencing has been repaired and replaced, and just last week new picnic tables were installed.
Local councillor Karen Walker, who grew up in Frederick Avenue, said: “We want to continue to see The Green used for years to come by people of all ages, for a range of activities.
“Over the years, the area has sometimes been left to deteriorate due to lack of maintenance – but now thanks to pressure from the local Residents’ Association, we’ve seen new tables installed, trees planted and spring bulbs now blossoming.”
In 2014, following requests from residents, the association also organised three themed family events over the summer and in the autumn on the Green.
In March this year, the group was awarded more than £1,000 from the Sperring Trust and Curo Housing to continue their community-based work.
The Peasedown St John Residents Association, chaired by Joy Gosz, meets once a month at St John’s Close Community Hall.
