New Residents Parking Guidance has been released by the Council to give locals a clearer understanding of the Residents Parking process.
The documents, available on the council’s website, outline the different types of schemes that can be considered and both the benefits and restrictions of each.
Councillor Caroline Roberts (Lib-Dem, Newbridge), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “The Council wants to be supportive of communities who want to adopt a residents parking scheme, which includes ensuring people have the right level of information to take an informed judgement.
“In some cases, we have received requests for residents parking schemes without those wanting them fully understanding the possible options or the restrictions that they will place on all residents.
“This leads to issues during the consultation and implementation when residents suddenly find out that they can only have a limited number of permits or that because they have off street parking they are not entitled to a permit.
“We have developed the documents to allow those interested in having a scheme in their area to fully understand the implications before they start.
“We have also laid out the different ways these schemes can be approached to try to avoid the situation where long stretches of road are left empty during the day time which has knock-on effects to vehicle speeds and safety for all road users”.
The information is designed to allow local residents to clearly understand the criteria upon which decisions will be made on whether to progress residents parking schemes in any area.
The Council would not usually carry out a scheme without a clear majority of the residents in favour.
