During Volunteer Week (1st-7th June), Age UK B&NES is organising a range of activities to thank its 175 volunteers for their contribution to the community.
Collectively, the charity estimates that this team of dedicated individuals contributes over £100,000-worth of time each year, without which the local charity would be unable to continue its vital services for older people.
The week will be celebrated at events including a tour around the picturesque village of Mells with its walled garden and beautiful church, a traditional fish and chip lunch at High Littleton, and the chance to attend a talk and exhibition at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution.
The week will culminate with a party at St Michael’s Day Centre.
Janet Dabbs, chief executive of Age UK B&NES, said: “We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers who play such an essential role in our efforts to support the older residents of Bath and North East Somerset.
“We are using Volunteers Week to celebrate their hard work and commitment, generosity and compassion.
“We also need more volunteers to join our ranks and would be delighted to hear from anyone who could spare us some time – this could be anything from sharing a cup of tea with a lonely older person, or leading a short walk in the countryside.
“Volunteering isn’t just a great way of contributing to your community, it’s also a lot of fun and I know our volunteers get a huge amount from it.
“Please get in touch for an informal chat if you’d like to support our work in any way.”
