A local shop is celebrating after helping to collect more than 9,000 donated items of outdoor clothing nationwide, donated by customers as part of a month long initiative.

Rohan in Bath has been running its ‘Gift Your Gear’ appeal since the beginning of September.

The initiative aims to enable people to benefit from life changing experiences in the great outdoors, regardless of their circumstances, by providing them with suitable outdoor gear.

As a result of the successful campaign, Rohan Bath were able to deliver a number of boxes to the well deserving local charity, 66th Bath Western Scouts, who were extremely grateful for the local community’s generosity.

Manager, Claire Bryant, said: “We’ve been encouraging people to bring any unwanted, but usable, outdoor trousers, jackets and fleeces into the shop.

“These items will now be donated to local community organisations, youth groups and charities for outdoor projects.”

“The last time we ran ‘Gift Your Gear’ we got a fantastic response with nearly 7,000 garments being donated to our stores nationwide so it’s great to beat that figure by almost 25% this year.

“Our customers have been incredibly generous and some of the items being donated have great stories and histories attached to them or have travelled miles across the globe.”

Roger Cann, Rohan Managing Director, added: “Our shops are at the heart of the communities and we are delighted that ‘Gift Your Gear’ helps so many local causes.

“Not only is the useful life of the clothing extended, but another person gets to experience the joy of good gear.

“We’re so pleased with this year’s response; 9,000 items across our 56 stores is a great amount and will make a difference to community groups and charities across the country and help people experience and enjoy the joys of the great outdoors, irrespective of their circumstances.”
