The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) is on the lookout for Community Representatives in Bath who will act as ambassadors for their cause.

The charity, based in Bristol, is the only direct provider of an air ambulance service for the 2.1m people of the region, and was formed in 2008 – making it the youngest air ambulance charity in the country.

Covering the areas of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire and parts of West Wiltshire, GWAAC attended 29 incidents in the Bath area in the first nine months of 2013, arriving in less than eight minutes.

On Monday 2nd December 2013, GWAAC will be having a stall in the Volunteer Centre at Bath Central Library from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Representatives from the charity will be on hand to answer any questions that potential volunteers may have during the event.

Speaking of the importance of Community Representatives for the charity, Chief Executive John Christensen said: “As a small charity that covers a big area, we rely entirely on the support of our local community and volunteers to help us spread the message about the work that we do.”

“We are looking for enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers, with an in depth knowledge of their local area, who will act as ambassadors for us and whether you’re attending an event or sourcing collection tins, you will be representing our charity and helping to ensure that our air ambulance keeps flying.”

Alongside their existing day to day commitments, Community Representatives will be asked to source potential sites within their local community for collection tins and clothes banks, as well as representing the charity at events, acting as the charity’s eyes and ears in Bath as they go about their daily business.

All Community Representatives will be given a day’s training as well as on-going support, and there will be the opportunity to visit the charity’s base to find out more about the work that GWAAC do. If you would like to find out more, please call 0117 969 9344 or e-mail [email protected]

Here at NOW Bath we’re very proud to have the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity as our Charity of the Year 2013.
