Two of the families of three soldiers, one from Bath, who died on a training exercise in the Brecon Beacons last year have called for a criminal case to be considered.
L/Cpl Craig Roberts, 24, of Penrhyn Bay, Conwy, and L/Cpl Edward Maher, 31, died on 13th July 2013 during a 40-mile hike as part of a four-week trial for the Territorial Army’s SAS reservists.
Cpl James Dunsby, from Bath, died later in hospital.
Temperatures on the day reached 29.5ºc and caused all three soldiers to collapse. It was later found that the heat had caused ‘multiple organ failure’ which caused Cpl James Dunsby to die two weeks later.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided in July that it wouldn’t be bringing any gross negligence manslaughter charges over the deaths.
It was announced at a pre-inquest hearing that two families are appealing that decision.
