Liberal Democrat Schools Minister David Laws MP has announced that Beechen Cliff School and Ralph Allen School in Bath will receive a share of a £370m million school buildings fund.
Good school buildings are vital to making sure that more children and young people receive a first class education.
Beechen Cliff will receive money from the Condition Improvement Fund to replace a teaching block, and Ralph Allen will be able to replace old windows and refurbish the Science Block.
The Conservative Party’s plans would mean dramatic cuts to school maintenance and improvement in the future. The Conservatives have set out proposals to divert up to £5billion from school capital budgets – cuts that would impact on school building improvements.
Liberal Democrat Schools Minister David Laws MP said: “I am delighted to be announcing this funding for Ralph Allen and Beechen Cliff Schools in Bath, fought for and delivered by Liberal Democrats in government like local MP Don Foster.
“Liberal Democrats want to carry on investing in our school buildings to give every child the best possible start in life.
“Conservative plans would mean huge cuts for schools – ripping apart the coalition’s efforts to improve school buildings and condemning children in Bath to crumbling classrooms and out dated facilities.”
Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Bath, Steve Bradley, said: “This money is absolutely fantastic news for children, parents and teachers in Bath.
“It is much harder for teachers to teach and for children to learn when they are stuck in school buildings that aren’t as good as they could be.”
“The investments in Ralph Allen and Beechen Cliff will give the pupils there greater opportunity to get the first class education they deserve.”
Council Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth Dine Romero said: “The Council itself has invested in school buildings – with new classrooms and kitchens built over the last few years.
“It’s great to see Lib Dems in Government continuing this trend with much needed help for our schools here.”
