Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following a serious sexual assault in the centre of Bath in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened on Sunday morning (10th January) between 3.15-3.45am in the alleyway between Walcot Street and The Paragon in the city.

The victim left the Nest Nightclub, Bladud Buildings, Roman Road, at about 2am when it closed.

The assault took place shortly afterwards.

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of rape. The man (22) has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses, particularly two people who they think may have walked into or past the alleyway steps at about 3.30pm.

They remained in the area for about 10 minutes before walking along Walcot Street.

They are described as two white men who were wearing dark clothing. One of them was wearing a winter coat with a fur-lined hood.

Police believe the two men may have useful information to help their enquiries and would urge them to contact North East Investigations on the force number 101 as soon as possible, quoting reference 5216006320.
