Avon and Somerset Police are sending a letter of thanks and commendation to three members of the public who helped one of their officers who was being assaulted in a street in Bath.
The man and two women, from London, came to the officer’s aid when he was attacked in Bridge Street early on Sunday morning, 21st June.
He had challenged two men urinating in a doorway, which led to an altercation with the Sergeant being wrestled to the floor.
He suffered grazes to his knees and elbows and a stiff neck.
With the help of the three people who intervened, one man was arrested at the scene.
He is 33-year-old Mark Pallett, of Garstons in Bathford, who has been charged with assaulting a police officer and possessing a quantity of cannabis.
He has been bailed to appear before Bath magistrates on 23rd July.
In her letter, Bath area Commander Chief Supt Caroline Peters said: “I wanted to personally thank you for rushing to the officer’s aid.
“You intervened, putting your own safety at risk.
“Assistance from members of the public is absolutely critical to us being able to keep the community a safe place for everyone.
“Your vigilance and actions on this occasion are an excellent example of this type of cooperation.”
