Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal for witnesses and information after a householder disturbed a burglar in their home in the Newbridge area of Bath.

The householder returned to the property in Newbridge Road at about 3.15pm on Monday 3rd April and found the patio door had been forced.

They found a man inside who was carrying property from the house.

The would-be thief dropped the items and made off empty-handed towards Westfield Park and Brassmill Lane.

He was described as white with a tanned complexion, aged between 20 and 40, of muscular build with collar-length dark hair and wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and dark-coloured trousers.

Officers carried out house-to-house enquiries and a forensic examination of the scene.

Anyone with any information which could help the police with their enquiries into the break-in is asked to get in touch through their website, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5217073444.

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call and you could qualify for a reward.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously around a neighbour’s property, call the police straight away. It’s 999 if a crime is in progress, otherwise ring 101.
