Mark Thomas appeared in court on Wednesday 4th March to admit that he drove his van while more than double the legal alcohol limit on 14th February.
The court heard he’d been drinking at the Stoke Inn in Chew Stoke while waiting for a takeaway curry.
As he was trying to manoeuvre out of the car park, his van scratched a car coming in and the driver reported him to the police who went to his home in Tom Price Way in Bishop Sutton.
They found Thomas on the driveway unloading items. He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Keynsham Police Centre where he was found to have 90 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Bradley Axam, as duty solicitor, said Thomas, who was of previous good character, had made a “foolish decision” to drink while waiting for his curry and was “remorseful”.
As well as giving him a 24-month driving ban, magistrates fined him £200 and ordered him to pay a surcharge of £80 and prosecution costs of £85.
