Avon and Somerset Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of Melanie Road, who was found dead in Bath in 1984 after a night out.

A 63-year-old man from Bristol has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

He remains in custody at this time.

Melanie, 17, was murdered in June 1984 following a night out with friends in Bath.

She had walked home alone from the Beau Nash nightclub to St Stephen’s Close.

Her body was found on the morning of 9th June close to a block of garages in nearby St Stephen’s Court.

She had been sexually assaulted and stabbed repeatedly in the back and chest.

Police have said it would be inappropriate for them to comment further at this stage.
