British Transport Police and Avon & Somerset Police have launched an investigation after a 51-year-old man man was found dead with a number of injuries in Bath on Christmas Eve.

An update to this story is available here.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police and British Transport Police were called to a railway archway on the Lower Bristol Road near Bath’s railway station, just after 1.30pm on Tuesday (Christmas Eve), after a member of the public found the man’s body.

Det Insp Julie MacKay said: “The man’s death is unexplained but we are treating it as suspicious due to the nature of his injuries.

“It’s taken time to identify the man but his next of kin have now been located and informed.

“They’re being fully supported and our thoughts are with them at this very sad time.

“A formal identification procedure has not yet taken place and a forensic post-mortem examination is in the process of being carried out to confirm how the man died.

“We’re working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death and we want to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area around archway 81 on the Lower Bristol Road, on or before Christmas Eve.”

If you can help, call Avon and Somerset Police via the 24-hour Enquiry Centre on 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
