A Keynsham man who drove his wife’s car without insurance or a valid licence has been landed with fines and costs totalling almost £1,400.

Ajet Velijaj, of Bath Hill, appeared at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4th February to admit the two offences.
The court heard from his solicitor that the construction worker had been asked to drop some kit off at a site a short distance from his home on 29th September last year.
He would normally get picked up by a colleague and had felt under some pressure, so he borrowed his wife’s Mercedes and was on his way back when he was pulled over by the police.
Magistrates heard that he was of previous good character and was sorry for his “lapse of judgement”.
There was an Albanian interpreter in court for the 27-year-old’s hearing.
Magistrates fined him £700 for having no insurance and £233 for no licence. He received six penalty points for having no insurance and for the licence offence his driving record was endorsed but with no points.
Velijaj was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £373 court surcharge.
