More than a dozen members of the public helped police bring a suspected drink driver to a stop on the M4 on Sunday afternoon, 19th April.

Avon & Somerset Police said officers were first alerted around 2pm on Sunday 19th April, after callers reported a black Mercedes swerving across lanes on the westbound carriageway near junction 18 for Bath.

Specialist roads policing officers were sent to the scene and safely stopped the vehicle at 2.23pm between junctions 21 (Awkley) and 22 (Pilning).

A man was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was being held in police custody.

Police said the information provided by the public enabled officers to respond quickly, and no collisions or injuries were reported.

Anyone with dashcam or other footage that could assist the investigation is being asked to call 101, quoting reference 5226106699.
